The 300SE is a famous W126 series automobile. This series premiered in 1979 and had a 12 year production run. The W126 was intially offered in straight 6, V8 and turbo diesel models. Compared to its predecessor, the W 126 series was more aerodynamic, fuel efficient, capacious and powerfully engined. The W 126 line also introduced many Mercedes Benz safety innovations, such as an airbag, supplemental restraint systems, seatbelt pre tensioners and traction control.
In september 1985 Mercedes Benz came out with two new 6 cylinder engines and a new 4.2 and 5.6 litre B-8 engine's. Between 1985 and 1991 there were 105,422 300se's manufactured, all using the 3.0 litre in line 6 cylinder engine. This engine produced 178 hp and had a maximum speed of 130 mph.
In 1988 and 1989 the Mercedes Benz 380 se was awarded the U.S. Highway loss data institute " safest car of the year" awards. In 1987, 88, 89 and 90, with the s-class leading its sales, Mercedes Benz recieved the highest customer ratings in the J.D power sales satisfaction index.
